OEM vs ODM Bicycles: What Importers Actually Need to Know

Two words come up in every bicycle sourcing conversation: OEM and ODM. They sound similar and get used loosely, but they change your cost, your lead time and how much of the bike is actually yours. Here is the plain version.

OEM - use our platform, add your brand

OEM (private label) starts from MEIRX existing frames and models. You supply the brand identity - logo, custom paint and colorways, component configuration and packaging - while the frame structure stays intact. It is the fast, low-risk way to put your name on a proven bike.

ODM - start from your drawing or sample

ODM (original design manufacturing) starts from your drawing, sample or concept. MEIRX modifies the structure, develops a new model, or co-develops with you - which may involve new tooling. Choose this when the bike itself is your differentiator, not just the paint.

Which one fits your brand?

  • New brand, want to move fast: OEM. You launch on a proven platform and spend your energy on marketing, not engineering.
  • Unique geometry or a patent: ODM. The bike is the product; protect and develop it.
  • Not sure yet: start OEM, then graduate specific models to ODM once you know what sells.

How a project flows

Both models follow the same path: requirements talk -> feasibility & quote -> sample confirmation -> deposit -> mass production -> FOB Tianjin Port shipment. Your forwarder takes over from Tianjin. See the full flow on our OEM vs ODM page.
