Mountain Bike MOQ: Containers, Mixing & What "Minimum" Really Means

"What is your MOQ?" is usually the first question a new brand asks. The honest answer for a mountain bike factory is measured in containers, not units - and that is good news once you know why.
The reference MOQ: one 20-ft container
As a reference, the minimum order is one 20-ft container - around 100 bikes, depending on the model and packaging. That number is not arbitrary: it is the unit that makes painting, assembly and shipping efficient enough to hold a sensible unit price.
You can mix in one container
A container does not have to be one model in one color. Within a 20-ft box you can typically mix colorways and even mix models from the same platform family - useful when you are testing a market and do not yet know which spec sells. We confirm the exact mix per project.
Why container-level, not 10 pieces
- Paint batches: setting up a colorway has fixed cost; spreading it across a container keeps per-bike cost down.
- Production scheduling: a line is most efficient running one confirmed batch, not ten one-off frames.
- Shipping math: ocean freight is quoted per container, so partial loads waste the biggest cost line.
OEM vs ODM minimums
An OEM private-label run starts at roughly one 20-ft container. An ODM deep-custom project may carry an additional tooling evaluation on top, because new structure means new setup. Both are confirmed per project after a feasibility review - see the comparison on our OEM vs ODM page.
What if you are not ready for a full container?
Most brands start with a sample order - one or a few units to validate build quality and fit before committing to a container. That is the right way to de-risk: prove the bike, then scale. Open a quote request and tell us your target market and expected volume; we will suggest a starting point.
