Hardtail vs Full Suspension: Pick by Target Market

Hardtail (front suspension only) versus full suspension (front and rear) changes cost, weight and who the bike is for. For a brand, this is a positioning decision.
Hardtail
A hardtail is simpler, lighter and cheaper to build and service. It teaches riders line choice and body position, and it covers the bulk of entry, trail and youth riding. Most brands should launch here.
Full suspension
Full suspension adds rear travel for steep, technical terrain and a plusher descent. It costs more, weighs more and needs more maintenance. It suits riders who have outgrown the trail bike or who ride rocky, aggressive terrain.
Choose by market
- Entry / trail / youth: hardtail.
- Technical enduro / aggressive: full suspension.
- First brand run: hardtail, then expand.
